Civil Process FAQ

Is advance payment required?
Yes.  The Jo Daviess County Sheriff's Office does require advance payment.
How much does the service cost?
It is a $50.00 flat rate for each respondent.  We will try up to 5 attempts.
Is there a charge for mileage?
No.  There is no charge for mileage.
How many copies does the Sheriff's Office need?
Our office needs the original summons along with a copy of the summons and one complaint to be served.
When is the original paperwork and affidavit returned?
Paperwork will be returned after service and/or five attempts assuming service is paid in full.
Who gets the original paperwork and affidavit after payment?
If you want the original paperwork and affidavit back, you can request so in your cover letter.  If there is no request for the paperwork back, the Sheriff's Office will return papers filed in Jo Daviess County to the Circuit Clerk's Office.
