Public Health

The Health Department is charged with implementing the health protection programs that are required for certification by the Illinois Department of Public Health. Those programs are water quality, food sanitation, private sewage disposal, and communicable disease.

The Health Department is responsible for community-wide health assessment and planning. It is governed by the Board of Health, which assures that the health concerns of the county are being addressed. These five programs are what any local health department is responsible for providing in order to meet the certification process in Illinois.

In addition, the agency administers the Immunization program and the Lab Draw Program.

The Health Department receives Federal funding for Emergency Preparedness.
